Sudden Vision Loss After Gym Workout: A Case of Retinal Detachment in High Myopia
Case Presentation A 20-year-old male presented with sudden decrease in vision in his left eye after weight lifting at the gym. He was a known case of high myopia with a refractive error of −7.00 diopters in both eyes and had no history of eye injury or surgery. Ocular Examination On examination, visual acuity in the right eye was 6/9, while the left eye showed counting fingers at 3 meters. Fundus examination revealed multiple areas of lattice degeneration in the peripheral retina of the right eye. The left eye showed rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Management Due to the acute onset and significant retinal detachment, pars plana vitrectomy was performed in the left eye on the very next day. To prevent retinal detachment in the fellow eye, prophylactic barrage laser photocoagulation was done in the right eye to treat the lattice degeneration.
